Why Falls Church Homes Built Before 1980 Need a Sewer Camera Inspection

If your Falls Church home was built before 1980, there is a strong chance the sewer pipe under your yard is made of a material that was never designed to last this long. A camera inspection is the only way to know what condition it is actually in.

I’m Dennis Rollins — And I’ve Seen It All With Old Pipes in Northern Virginia

I’m a retired U.S. Navy Chief and owner of Veteran Plumbing Services. My strong advice for any Falls Church homeowner with a pre-1980 home: get your sewer line inspected with a camera before it becomes an emergency.

What Was Under Your House When It Was Built

In the past, many sewer lines were constructed from clay tile or Orangeburg pipe. Orangeburg is rolled-up tar paper. After 40-plus years underground, those pipes do not hold up. They cave in, rot out, and attract roots like a magnet. Even clay pipes, although stronger, crack over time, allowing soil and roots to infiltrate.

The Problem Is, You Won’t Notice It Until It’s Too Late

You won’t notice a deteriorating sewer line until your drains start backing up or your yard starts smelling like sewage. By then, you’re looking at thousands in cleanup and emergency repairs. And if the pipe collapses under your driveway or sidewalk, add the cost of digging and concrete work on top of that.

What a Sewer Camera Inspection Does

A sewer camera inspection is fast, clean, and does not involve any digging. I run a small camera through your main line and show you exactly what’s going on. You’ll know if there’s damage, root intrusion, corrosion, or sagging that needs attention. Falls Church has a lot of beautiful older homes, but the pipes under them are aging fast. Let’s take a look before your line decides to quit on its own schedule.
